Mountain Biking in Afan Valley 2015

One of the top 5 mountain biking trails in the world is only a 4 miles up the Afan Valley from Fedwen Fawr.  There are two big events this year although that should not stop you popping down for a few days to use the trails at the Afan Forest Park mountain bike centre. If you are interested in booking mountain bike hire or need advice on where to ride, contact Paul Peet at Mountain Bike Hire – mtbhire@tiscali.co.uk

Margam Park

The new Off Road Cycling Centre of Excellence at Margam Park has some great new trails opening in 2015.

Fedwen Fawr is only a short distance (5 miles) from Margam Park – that is where the deer on the farm escaped from. With no accommodation facilities at Margam Fedwen Fawr is the perfect place to stay whilst riding around the park.

Aberavon Sands and Swansea Bay

The beach! The Beach! I hear you cry we want to go to the beach.  Well not to disappoint Fedwen Fawr is only 3 miles north of the spectacular Swansea Bay.  At the southern heights of the farm you have a spectacular vista of the bay and beaches from Porthcawl to Mumbles and Gower.

Water sports

If water sports are your favour then why not pod camping at Fedwen Fawr and head for the beach in 2015. There are so many activities from surfing to sailing. From kayaking to just about anything that you can think of doing on the beach.

Kite surfing

Regular events at Aberavon are the kite surfers with their colourful kites sweeping across the bay jumping waves and surfing along the water’s edge.  Don’t worry the beach is big enough.

Surf life rescue competitions

In the summer months the bi-weekly local and regional and national surf life rescue competitions take place by the lifeboat station with the steps of the promenade providing amphitheatre seating.

Fishing

Launch you boat from the slipway and head out to the rich fishing grounds of Swansea bay or just turn up for some bass fishing off the beach – bring your rod and kit with you!

Sunbathing and swimming

Sunbath and rest along the unspoilt dunes of Aberavon.  A short walk and you are away from the madding crowd.

Car trips from Fedwen Fawr

Travel west and you pass through the metropolis of Swansea and venture beyond to Gower, another great place to visit.

Head north up the Neath Valley and the A468 and you head for waterfall country and the Afan Argoed Falls amongst many others.  Take some boots and your camera.

Further west along the M4 brings you to Carmarthenshire and a host of great venues and places to visit.
